National Park Krka

The National Park Krka is a vast and primarily unaltered area of exceptional natural value, including one or more preserved or insignificantly altered ecosystems. The purpose of the park is primarily to serve science, culture, education, and recreation, while tourism activities have also been introduced for its visitors.

Including the submerged part of the river at the mouth, the Krka River is 72.5 km long, making it the 22nd longest river in Croatia. It springs in the foothills of the Dinara mountain range, 2.5 km northeast of Knin. With its seven waterfalls and a total drop in altitude of 242 m, the Krka is a natural and karst phenomenon. The travertine waterfalls of the Krka River are the fundamental phenomenon of this river.

River Krka is one of the most beautiful karst rivers in Europe. The best known and visited areas of Krka National Park are Skradinski Buk and Roški slap. Skradinski Buk is one of Croatia's best-known natural treasures, made up of travertine cascades, islands, and lakes. Skradinski Buk is the longest travertine barrier on the Krka River. A walking trail has been constructed over the river. The trail takes you on a 60 minute light walk through the deep shade of the lush Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean vegetation, which offers the exceptional possibility of direct contact with the unique microcosms of mystical sounds, lights, colors, the mysterious world of travertine mosses, and numerous plant species of the travertine barriers and aquatic habitats.

Šibenik

Šibenik is a city of culture and rich history and two UNESCO-listed heritage sites. The capital of Šibenik-Knin County and the oldest Croatian town on the Adriatic coast mentioned for the first time in 1066. in a document written by King Petar Krešimir IV, therefore often called "Krešimir's Town".

Šibenik is lying in the picturesque and wide bay on the sunken estuary of the river Krka.
Three medieval fortresses surround the city on the land and one on the sea. Once, the fortifications protected the city from the attacks and today they provide an unforgettable view of the city and its surroundings.

The most known and essential monument of European architecture is the Cathedral of St. James from the 15th and 16th centuries. The Cathedral is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list and the only such building in Europe made only out of stone. The Cathedral served as a backdrop in the ninth episode of the fifth season of the Game of Thrones, in which Šibenik portrays Braavos, the city of the Iron Bank.

Other impressive Renaissance and Baroque churches, palaces, squares, and streets are located in the old town. Šibenik is a city with 24 churches, six monasteries, four fortresses, 2851 city steps, and the largest number of baroque organs.
